STEP MEETING 2013 BREAKOUT: Utilizing Peer Mentors in Supplemental Instruction (Session III-3)

This on-line discussion is intended to accompany the STEP MEETING 2013 Workshop: Utilizing Peer Mentors in Supplemental Instruction. Led by Maria Bautista, Kapi'olani Community College; Mark S. Session participants, leaders, or anyone interested can help enrich this breakout session and facilitate future discussion and collaborating by sharing questions, ideas, comments, and additional resources ON-LINE before, during, and after the session.

Abstract: Peer Mentors take on multiple roles in our projects. Join us to discuss how to utilize them as facilitators in targeted courses to assist students in their understanding of key concepts. In addition to a formal classroom, we will discuss important ways mentors engage, motivate, and empower students to solve problems. We will also focus on the importance of faculty involvement in the process of recruiting, training, and utilizing them effectively in our STEP projects.   Attendees begin the session by visiting with the PIs at their posters.  A facilitated group discussion follows.
