STEM Summer Institute at UCLA
The Higher Education Research Institute is hosting its inaugural STEM Summer Institute on August 5 and 6. The two-day workshop will feature the latest findings on best practices in postsecondary STEM education. We have specifically tailored the workshop to address needs of campus administrators and faculty interested in pursuing innovative strategies to recruit, retain, and graduate increased numbers of undergraduates in STEM. Participants will learn from experts who have been researching undergraduate STEM student pathways and successful interventions for more than a decade as well as from campus leaders who are successfully transforming undergraduate STEM education at their institution.
Specifically, the workshop will feature:
Highlights from a 10-year national study on undergraduate student pathways through STEM
Strategies for assessment of STEM interventions and curricula
Conversations with campus leaders currently implementing best practices to transform undergraduate STEM education at their institution
Discussions with program officers about their insights for STEM innovation and funding for STEM education research and transformation.
Led by HERI Director Dr. Sylvia Hurtado and CIRP Director Dr. Kevin Eagan, this intensive two-day workshop promises to be an engaging and enlightening event that will equip participants with skills, knowledge, and insight that will be helpful in identifying, assessing, and addressing campus-specific needs with regard to STEM education.
